PROPHETSTOWN – Cleora J. Roth, passed away Monday October 10, 2016 at her home at the age of 86.
She was born April 28, 1930 at her family home at 312 West 3rd Street in Prophetstown, IL the daughter of Lester B. "Buck" and Florence (Adams) Roth. Cleo, as she was known to family and friends lived in the family home her entire life.
Cleo's grandfather, Henry C. Adams and his brother Fred, started the Eclipse Lawn Mower Co in 1904 and it flourished through the Great Depression until it was sold in late 1950's. Cleo's family enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on Clark Lake in Nisswa, MN. In the early 1950's after her high school years, Cleo and her mother started raising and training show horses at their farm. They spent the next 40 years at horse shows and fairs and brought home many ribbons. Cleo has managed the Star Genius Farms, which was a Centennial farm. The farm was purchased from the Federal Government in 1852 by her great grandfather. Cleo was very proud of the family farm.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry C. and Minnie Adams; her parents Lester B. "Buck" and Florence Roth; her brother Henry Roth and younger sister Carolyn Wieneke.
She leaves her dear friend and helper Eric Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 14, 2016 from 11 – 12noon at the McDonald Funeral Home, 45 Grove Street – Route 78 North in Prophetstown. The funeral will follow at Noon with the Reverend Katrina Gallagher, pastor of the First Lutheran Church of Prophetstown officiating. Burial will conclude at Riverside Cemetery.
